'Local Hero' - New Cross & Deptford Free Film Festival - Thursday 1st May 2025
Thursday, 1st May, 18:30 - 20:30
This year, we will be participating in the New Cross & Deptford Free Film Festival in 2025!
On the first night, we will be screening the environmental film "Local Hero" (1983), directed by Bill Forsyth.
About the Film: "Local Hero" is a heartwarming tale that beautifully captures the charm of a small Scottish village and the impact of an American oil company's plans to build a refinery. This classic film not only entertains but also delivers an important environmental message relevant to the local context of Deptford Creek. The soundtrack by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, who started his legendary band in Deptford, adds a special touch to the film.
Our Mission: At Creekside Discovery Centre, we are dedicated to local conservation and environmental education. Our mission is to inspire people to connect with the wonder of urban wildlife. We aim to raise awareness and foster a deeper connection with nature by screening a film with an important environmental message.
